About BMW
BMW is a car, motorcycle, and engine manufacturing company that was founded in 1916 by Franz Josef Popp, Petak Grba, and Renato Ditrih after the restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft firm. Due to the Versailles Armistice Treaty, BMW was forced to cease all aircraft operations. Thereafter, the company began to produce motorcycles in 1923, and automobiles in 1928. The first successful car that BMW rolled out was the Dixi, which was largely based on Austin Motor Company’s Austin 7.
Some of the company’s most popular cars include their numbered series(1-7) and high performance M series (M3-M6). In addition to everyday cars, BMW is also well represented in Formula 1, touring, and rally. Today, along with Audi and Mercedes-Benz, BMW is known as one of the three best selling luxury car manufactures in the world. The company also owns Mini and Rolls-Royce.
BMW’s logo is one that evolved from the logo of Rapp Motorenwerke, the aviation company that would later become the German motor car powerhouse. The logo is meant to look like an aircraft propeller moving through a blue sky. The colors represent the flag colors of Bavaria.
