Logos Quiz Level 4-4 Answers
Answer: Motorola
Motorola is a telecommunications company founded in Illinois in 1928, now split into two companies, Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility. The latter is owned by the Chinese company Lenovo, which is a digital hardware company that also makes laptop computers. Motorola is known for creating the first commercially accessible cellular phone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. While bulky by modern standards (and with only enough battery life to speak for about 30 minutes), the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X had a huge impact in the 1980s and became a status symbol, as well as a symbol of advancing technology. Many movies from 1980s feature the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, and its legacy endures. Motorola’s M6800 microprocessor was one of the essential parts of the computer revolution, and allowed computers to deal with larger amounts of data than ever before. Motorola was also one of the first companies to produce flip-phones or clam phones, and instituted the now-famous (or infamous) Sigma Six business strategy for manufacturers. Six Sigma is concerned mainly with producing quality products free from defects, and gives priority to people within a company who are experts at analyzing the quality of the products and isolating factors that may contribute to improved productivity. Motorola was surpassed by the Nokia corporation as the largest producer of cellular phones in the late 90s.
