Logos Quiz Level 4-24 Answers
Answer: Rip Curl
Rip Curl was founded in Australia in 1969 by Doug Warbrick (“Claw”) and Brian Singer (“Sing Ding”), two native Australian surfers based in Victoria. The began selling surfboards out of a small shack near the beach during the height of the short board craze and saw the need for cold-water surfing gear, since there were only two wetsuit manufacturers in the area. After cobbling together the first wetsuits, they began enlisting more employees to help them start manufacturing boards and suits. Rip Curl was named after Warbrick’s V-shaped surfboard, “Rip Curl Hot Dog,” and company has acknowledged that the name has no real meaning, other than sounding “groovy.” Rip Curl forms one of the Big 3 in surfing, snowboarding, and skating, along with Billabong and Quiksilver. Many of the World Surfing Champions, including Tom Curren, have been sponsored by Rip Curl, and the company maintains one of the most successful bikini lines for women. Besides manufacturing surfing gear, the company also makes snowboarding gear and GPS watches, which are especially useful for surfers looking to navigate beaches and coastlines.
