Hugh Hefner founded Playboy. He was an American businessman and publisher of the adult magazine Playboy. He was born in 1926 and founder of Playboy Enterprises. Hefner began a writing career in a newspaper between 1944 and 1946. After he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, he also decided to minor in art and creative writing in 1949. He continued to live and with more schooling eventually dropped out of school for no apparent reason. Hugh was working as a copywriter for Esquire magazine in 1952. Soon he left when he was denied a raise. Then in 1953, Hugh Hefner launched Playboy, which at first went under the name Stag Party. Marilyn Monroe was featured in the first Playboy magazine and sold over 50,000 of its subscriptions. Playboy consistently published high-end literature in each issue. In 1955, Charles Beaumont’s science fiction story titled “The Crooked Man” was published and received a lot of anger from conservatives. The story accounts for a universe where straight men are persecuted by homosexual men. Playboy strongly defended their publishing and printing of this story. Hugh Hefner consistently said that the American government was after him because he had tolerant views of drugs.
