About Twitter

Twitter is a social networking site that lets people send out personalized 140-character tweets. In addition to letters, user can also post pictures and videos to their profile. As a member of Twitter, you can follow other members and keep up with their musings through your timeline. Tweeters are also enabled to favorite other’s messages and retweet their messages to their own followers.

Amongst other things, Twitter is largely known for connecting people and celebrities, viral promoting, real time news and of course hash-tagging phrases and trends.

Twitter was created in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. By 2012, there were over 100 million twitter users with that number going up to 500 million by July 2014. As of now Twitter is estimated to be worth around $2 billion.

The logo of Twitter has gone through a couple changes throughout the years with the most recent incarnation representing a Mountain Bluebird. In 2011, it was confirmed that the company’s bird mascot was name “Larry the Bird” after Boston Celtics great, Larry Bird.
