About Starbucks
Starbucks is an American global coffeehouse and coffee company that was founded in 1971 Seattle by Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Sigl. With almost 21,000 stores spread out throughout the world, Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world. Today, under CEO and chairman Howard Schultz, Starbucks is listed as one of Forbe’s Magazines most powerful brands.
Though it was created as a simple coffee bean roaster and retailer like Peet’s Coffee and Tea, Starbucks quickly expanded. Since the mid-1980’s, Starbucks has grown so much so that, on average, two new stores open every day. Starbucks as also moved on from selling strictly based products as they now feature teas, pastries, snacks, pre-packaged foods, sandwiches, and even wine and beer in some locations. The company even has a entertainment division where they market books, music, and film.
The Starbucks logo is that of a twin-tailed mermaid or siren. In the early days, the logo actually featured the mermaid’s bare breasts. However, that was later changed to avoid controversy. The colors of brown and green come from the University of San Francisco, the alma mater of the three original founders.
