About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a fast-food restaurant chain. They primarily serve Tex-Mex foods like tacos, quesadillas and more. Taco Bell is based in Irvine, California and its locations are primarily found in the U.S. Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell. Bell opened a hot dog stand in 1946. This stand then became Bell’s Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, which was located across the street from a Mexican restaurant. Impressed by their popularity, Bell then opened a taco stand in 1951. He expanded, owning many restaurants called El Taco. He sold those restaurants and opened the first Taco Bell in 1962. After selling his first franchise, Bell’s company grew quickly. by 1967, 100 Taco Bells had opened.

Today, there are over 6,500 Taco Bell locations. About 80% of these locations are franchised businesses. Taco Bell has partnered with KFC in many of its locations. These locations offer Taco Bell and KFC in the same building. Taco Bell has also partnered with Doritos and Mountain Dew to offer unique products. Taco Bell sells Mountain Dew Baja Blast and tacos that come in Dorito flavored shells. They offer both Cool Ranch tacos and Nacho Cheese tacos.

Taco Bell is famous for its commercials featuring a chihuahua.

These commercials ran from 1997-2000 and featured a chihuahua saying ‘Yo quiero Taco Bell!’ or I want Taco Bell. This chihuahua became a cultural icon, although many people of Latino descent found it offensive and a racial stereotype. The chihuahua featured in the commercial would go on to ‘star’ in Legally Blonde 2 as the mother of Elle Woods’ famous pup, Bruiser. Taco Bell launched a campaign advertising their $2 Meal Deals by asking the government to create more two dollar bills in 2010. Recently, Taco Bell introduced a breakfast menu as an attempt to create competition with McDonalds.
