About Land Rover
Land Rover is a British automotive brand owned by Jaguar Land Rover. Land Rover was initially the name of just one specific vehicle. The popularity of the Land Rover was so much that the one vehicle became a brand. Land Rovers are four wheel vehicles. They are often used for off-roading and the military. Original Land Rovers were designed in 1947, inspired by Jeeps used in WWII. Early Land Rovers were painted an army green in homage to this inspiration. Land Rovers were a part of the Ford Motor Company through the licensed use of their engines and design. Land Rover engines were also used in Ford pick-up trucks.
Land Rover became its own company in 1978 after a dissolution of the British Leyland Motor Corporation. It was then a part of the Rove group until 1988. In 1994, Land Rover was bought by BMW. It was then sold to Ford in 2000, joining their Premier Automotive Group. In 2007, Ford decided to sell Land Rover. Tata Motors bought both Land Rover and Jaguar. Land Rovers still use Ford engines and will probably continue to use them until 2019.
