National Geographic Channel is a television channel owned by National Geographic Society. The National Geographic Society was founded in 1888 as a club for academics and patrons interested in investing in travel. National Geographic also publishes children’s magazines and classroom materials.
The National Geographic channel started as television specials and series broadcast on other channels. The series started in 1964 on CBS and moved to ABC, PBS and NBC before launching their own channel in 2001. The National Geographic Channel is owned by both National Geographic and Fox Cable Networks. At first, National Geographic shows were primarily about travel and famous scientists.
