Answer: Cadillac
Cadillac is one of the oldest car brands in the United States, and has been recognized as one of the finest producers of luxury cars in the world. It was founded in 1905 after the near-dissolution of the Ford Motor Company and a merger with Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing, the latter of which had engineered a single-cylinder engine. The Cadillac manufacturing company was acquired by General Motors in 1909 and became the company’s luxury division, guided by Leland & Faulconer’s emphasis on precision engineering and style. Cadillac would go on to pioneer the first fully enclosed automobile, the steel roof, and the use of the V8 engine, along with the use of interchangeable parts in its manufacture. The latter two achievements would set the standard of the United States automobile industry, and the winning of the 1908 Dewar Trophy cemented the company’s status as the “standard of the world.” The Cadillac brand is considered the highest-quality among the various brands owned by General Motors, which acquired the Buick and Chevrolet lines. Cadillacs became a prominent status symbol throughout the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, and continues to rank among the most prestigious brands in the world. The logo is based off of the coat of arms of the French founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac.
