Logos Quiz level 4-19

Answer: Nikon
Nikon is one of the leading optics and camera manufacturers in the world. Nikon was founded in 1917 in Tokyo, Japan under the name Nippon Kogaku. It came about from a merger of three optics companies and produced telescopes, cameras, microscopes, and binoculars. During World War II, the company produced many products for the Japanese military, include bomb sights and submarine periscopes. Nikon cameras rose to prominence in the 1950s after the famous photographer Douglas David Duncans began using their lenses to cover the Korean War. After seeing the clarity and dramatic composition of Duncans’ photography, many professional news photographers and journalists began using the Nikkor lens, manufactured by Nikon, and the Nikon cameras, especially the F series, became an industry standard, even becoming incorporated into the NASA space program and Japanese observatories. Nikon began producing digital cameras in the early 1990s, competing with Canon for dominance of the consumer market. The Nikon CoolPix was introduced, and served as Nikon’s flagship digital camera for several years. Today, Nikon remains one of the most successful camera companies in the world.
