Logos Quiz level 4-22

Answer: Sega
Sega was founded in 1940 under the name Service Games, which made coin-operated arcade games for the United States military, then civilians. After combining with their main competitors, the Rosen family-operated chain of arcades, the company renamed itself SEGA. The company had huge success during the 70s and 80s with the rise of arcade games, but suffered heavily in the subsequent crash and focused more on designing and manufacturing home video game consoles, the first of which was the SG-1000. SEGA encountered heavy competition from Nintendo and later PlayStation, and the rivalry between Nintendo’s mascot Mario and SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog became the stuff of video game pop culture. Though the launch of the SEGA Genesis put them at the forefront of the console wars for several years, the failure of the Dreamcast meant the end of SEGA’s bid for the console market. The company now focuses on making third-party games for their competitor’s consoles, starting with ChuChu Rocket for the GameBoy. SEGA is still the leader in modern arcade games, and the resurgence of interest in retro gaming has given the company a small boost.
