Logos Quiz Level 4-32 Answers
Answer: Piaggio
Piaggio is a brand of Italian motor scooters, motorcycles, and electric bikes founded in 1882 by Enrico Piaggio. The company was originally a railroad and aeronautics company, but following World War II and the devastation of both Italy’s manufacturing industry and infrastructure, Enrico Piaggio realized that there was a market for cheap, accessible personal transportation. The engineer Corradino D’Ascanio, who had recently invented the first modern helicopter design, was enlisted to create a new type of vehicle. According to Piaggio, the new vehicle had to be easy to operate, able to carry more than one person, and relatively sturdy. The result was Piaggio’s first motor scooter, the Vespa. “Vespa” in Italian means “wasp,” and eventually became a new word in the Italian, “vespare,” meaning to travel via a Vespa motor scooter. The Vespa was a massive success for Piaggio, and became widely used across Europe. The legend of the Vespa scooter grew due to its prominence in movies and television shows, in which it was depicted as part of the seminal European experience.
