Logos Quiz Level 4-9 Answers
Answer: Ellesse
Ellesse is a sportswear company founded in Italy in 1959 by Leonardo Servadio, an Italian tailor and ski enthusiast. The name of the company comes from the initials of Servadio’s name, LS. The company began making fashionable and colorful ski wear in the 60s, revolutionizing the ski scene at resorts around Europe. The company’s first major success was the Jet Pant, a type of form-fitting ski pants with padded knees and a hem that would fit over the tops of ski boots, instead of being tucked in. The runaway success of the Jet Pant led Ellesse to move into tennis, which influenced its logo: the Ellesse logo is meant to combine the tips of two skis with the design of a tennis ball. Once it entered the tennis world, Ellesse’s pleated materials and fashionable styles dominated the sport, helped in part by the business practice of stitching the Ellesse logo on the outside of the gear, creating a never-before-seen level of brand recognition. Famous sports stars like Anna Kournikova and Muhammed Ali sported Ellesse brand clothing, and the 80s saw the sustained prominence of the brand.
