ESPN

ESPN is short for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. They are a United States based cable and satellite television program owned by ESPN Inc. ESPN Inc is owned by both The Walt Disney Company and Hearst Corporation. The network has offices in Seattle, New York City, Miami, Charlotte, and Los Angeles. ESPN focuses on airing sports and sports related television shows. This includes live and recorded events and sports talk shows. As of February 2015, ESPN is on about 94,396,000 television households in America. They also have operating channels in Australia, Latin America, Brazil and the United Kingdom. The channel launched in 1979. ESPN was founded by Bill Rasmussen, and his son Scott Rasmussen. They obviously had a huge love for sports and did not know what else to do with their great passion but share it with the rest of the world. Bill especially had no idea of what to do once he was fired from being a communications manager for the New England Whalers. Ed Eagan approached Bill about starting a cable television program that covered Connecticut sports. The began discussing and the idea slowly evolved into covering every single sports all across the world today. Their launch garnered an estimated 30,000 viewers. They now have a handful of other related channels like ESPN 2, ESPN Classic, ESPNews, ESPN+, ESPNU and others.
