Nespresso

Nespresso is the company whose full name is Nestle Nespresso S.A., which is a unit under the Nestle Group. They are based in Switzerland. They sell espresso, coffee capsules and Nespresso machines. Nestle is one of the largest companies in the world to be mired in so many controversies. Nestle has been known to have operating cocoa production suppliers who enact some of the worst forms of child labor in history. Children were trafficked to Cote d’lvoire and forced into slavery on cocoa plantations. They experienced severe beatings here. Lawsuits against Nestle for such productions were concluded by the Us District Court for the Central District of California that corporations cannot be made liable for violations of international law. In 2002, Nestle demanded that Ethiopia repay a six million dollar debt to the already overly prosperous company. Ethiopia at the time was suffering from a major famine.Nestle only backed down after over 8,500 people complained to them of their ill treatment of an entire country over a meager sum of money relative to their whole company. Nestle are known to have fixed and inflated prices of chocolate in 2007. Competition Bureau made investigations that uncovered that Nestle had indeed colluded with Canadian competition to inflate these prices in order for all of them to simply make more money.
