Answer: Kenwood

Kenwood

Kenwood corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of radio and hifi portable audio equipment. They were first established in 1946 as Kasuga Radio Co. Ltd, then they changed their name to Trio Corporation in 1960. Then at some other point in time they changed their name once more to be Kenwood because they wanted to have a more American sounding name in order to sell well in the states. They went with Kenwood because Kenmore appliances had sold really well and because the word wood seemed to fit well with the durability of their products. They also chose wood because of its suggested relation to Hollywood. Kenmore was somehow related to RadioShack at some point in its early years, right around the time they were about to make a transition from Trio Corporation to Kenwood. They were taken over by some American Japanese person who enacted the change in their name. They offer Amateur radio receivers like HF, VHF/UHF, portable amateur radio models, and more. They held the reign over most HF transceivers for years. In 2014 they acquired EF Johnson Technologies. Over the years, they have acquired a bunch of different technologies and companies that put out technologies.
