Saab

Saab is a Swedish car manufacturer. They were first started in 1945. Their first model was the Saab 92, which was launched in 1949. In 1968, Saab merged with Scania-Vabis, and later down the road Saab launched their best selling model, the Saab 900. The Saab 900 is a luxury automobile that is compact and was produced for two generations, from 1978 to 1998. These two generations are classified as the classic models and the new generation models. The classic model was a front-engined front wheel driving model with double wishbone front suspension and also a beam-axle rear suspension. This was designed off of the previously released Saab 99. The Saab 900 had a few unusual features for cars manufactured at the time. It had its engine installed backwards, which allowed for most power to be delivered from the crank at the front of the car. The other unusual installation had to do with the transmission, which was bolted to the bottom of the engine to form an oil pan. The Saab 900 had a deep curve in the windshield which allows for the best visibility for the driver and was designed after different aircraft models. Saab’s design of the door was also unique in how it eliminates stoop in the front cabin and helped to prevent water and debris from entering in near the foot of the door.
